Rep. Tom Graves Supports Bill to Increase Transparency, Efficiency at FCC
Washington, Jan 23 -
The House today approved, with Rep. Tom Graves’ (R-GA-14) support, the Federal Communications Commission Process Reform Act (H.R. 290), bipartisan legislation to increase procedural transparency and efficiency at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). ###
“The American people deserve a clear and open rulemaking process at the FCC,” said Rep. Graves. “This legislation will ensure families and businesses have the opportunity to make their voices heard and know where the rulemaking process stands when changes are considered. It also requires the FCC to publicly post information online, such as budget, number of employees and performance plan. Together, these reforms will help ensure the FCC is serving the American people, not catering to political interests.”
Among the reforms, H.R. 290 requires the FCC to set minimum comment periods for rulemaking proceedings, ensure the public has time to review material submitted in a proceeding after the comment period has closed, publish the status of open rulemakings, and post consumer complaint information on its website.
