Graves Votes Against FY11 CR Deal

Washington, D.C., April 14, 2011 -

U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-09), member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 1473, a continuing resolution to fund the government for the remainder of fiscal year 2011:

“North Georgians sent me to Washington to end the reckless spending and reject the status quo.  The deal before Congress today doesn’t satisfy my conscience or my constituents’ demands. At a time when we need serious spending cuts to address our $14 trillion debt, the President and Senate Democrats refuse to reduce the size of government, but insist on compromise.

“Our government has been dishonest with the American people for far too long.  All the spending and government programs are built on a lie that we can afford them.  The public knows better, and at this pivotal point in American history, now is the time to stand firmly against compromises that jeopardize our future.

“I believe this Congress can and will do better.  We proved it with H.R. 1, and I believe we’ve put forth a powerful new vision for America with the 2012 budget.  I look forward to the next stage in the fight for fiscal responsibility, as we work to enact spending reforms, modernize entitlements, and secure financial solvency for future generations.”
