Graves Statement On August Unemployment Report

Washington, D.C., September 2, 2011 -

U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-09) issued the following statement on the Department of Labor’s August unemployment report, which showed the jobless rate remained at 9.1 percent:

“The August jobs report confirms that President Obama’s government-focused agenda has made it nearly impossible for the U.S. economy to grow.  The philosophy of spending, debt and regulation has failed, and it’s turned a sluggish job market into a total standstill.  America didn’t gain a single job last month. Not one.

“Now we await the President’s speech on jobs, where he’ll refocus, again, on our country’s highest priority.  While I sincerely hope the President presents solutions for private sector job growth, the political theater seems unnecessary, as House Republicans have been passing components of our jobs plan for months.  We simply need the President and Senate Democrats to end their blockade of our plan.

“Today, we have at least 14 million Americans looking for work and waiting for Washington to change course.  With a plan for major regulatory reform, lower tax rates, maximizing domestic energy production, and balancing the budget, House Republicans are offering that new vision.  In his address to the joint session next Thursday, I hope President Obama seizes the moment to join us and get Americans back to work.”
