Rep. Graves Speaks in Support of President Trump’s Spending Cut Package
Graves Also Highlights the Fund for America’s Kids and Grandkids

Washington, June 7, 2018 - Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) today spoke on the House Floor in support of the Spending Cuts to Expired and Unnecessary Programs Act (H.R. 3), which Rep. Graves introduced as an original cosponsor in May. The legislation is based on the Trump administration’s proposal to cut $14.835 billion of unused, unnecessary spending. The proposal utilizes a special legislative tool called “rescissions,” which the Senate is able to pass on a simple majority vote, that takes back or ‘rescinds’ funds Congress previously appropriated.

Rep. Graves also highlights a provision in his Financial Services Appropriations bill to create the Fund for America’s Kids and Grandkids. The Fund safeguards funds for future generations, as money in the account is not accessible until the budget deficit is erased. Rep. Graves cut $585 million from across his bill to make an initial deposit.

Below is a key quote from Rep. Graves’ remarks.

Rescinding these funds is good government. It's a signal to the American people that President Trump [and] congressional Republicans are serious about getting our House in order and protecting our kids and our grandkids from this unsustainable and out-of-control national debt.
