Rep. Tom Graves Receives Friend of Farm Bureau Award

Washington, Sep 20 -

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) announced today that Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) is a recipient of the Friend of Farm Bureau Award. AFBF gives the award at the end of each Congress to legislators who have at least a 60 percent voting record in agreement with AFBF’s priorities.

These priorities include votes legislators cast concerning food security and safety, regulatory reform, technology, and trade. The AFBF Board of Directors, on which Georgia Farm Bureau President Gerald Long serves, established these priority issues.

“We're extremely grateful for the support we received from Rep. Graves,” Georgia Farm Bureau President Gerald Long said. “Rep. Graves voted with the Farm Bureau's position on key agricultural issues, which are essential to the continued success of Georgia farmers, during the 114th Congress.”

“Georgia’s farmers and ranchers contribute billions of dollars to the state’s economy, employ one in seven Georgians and help feed the nation,” said Rep. Graves. “I’m proud to receive this award and support the agriculture industry in Congress.”

The first recipients of the Friend of Farm Bureau Award were announced in September 1996 and have been announced every other September thereafter near the end of subsequent congresses.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state's largest general farm organization and has 158 county offices. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, state and national activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors. GFB offers its members a wide variety of benefits, including insurance, but enrollment in member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership.
