Rep. Tom Graves Votes to Cut IRS, Reduce Regulations
Washington,
July 7, 2016 -
Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) voted for and the House passed the fiscal year 2017 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act (H.R. 5485), which funds the nation’s financial infrastructure, including the Treasury Department, Judiciary, Small Business Administration, and Securities and Exchange Commission.
“In this year’s bill, we focused on peeling away excessive government regulations, which have made it harder for middle-class Americans to access financial markets and depressed economic growth,” said Rep. Graves, who helped write the bill as a member of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Appropriations. “We also focused on improving accountability at the government agencies, particularly the IRS. While we’ve slashed the IRS by more than $1 billion and cracked down on its leadership over the last five years, we must continue keeping it on a short leash. Our common-sense reforms include prohibiting the IRS from rehiring fired employees, banning bonuses, outlawing the targeting of groups based on political and religious beliefs, and cutting the agency by another $236 million.”
