Rep. Tom Graves Votes to Hold Iran Accountable
Washington,
July 14, 2016 -
Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) this week voted for and the House passed three bills designed to block new deals and transactions with Iran and hold it accountable: the No 2H2O from Iran Act (H.R. 5119), the United States Financial System Protection Act (H.R. 4992) and the Iran Accountability Act (H.R. 5631).
“While the Obama administration continues to turn a blind eye, Congress is again taking the lead to ensure Iran pays for its terrible human rights record, its blatant violation of international agreements and its support for terrorism,” said Rep. Graves. “These bills will help hold Iran accountable and prevent the administration from making more deals with this dangerous regime.”
H.R. 5119 stops the administration from purchasing Iran’s heavy water – a nuclear chemical – which results in a cash infusion for Iran, one of the world’s leading state sponsors of terrorism.
H.R. 4992 prevents Iran from accessing the U.S. dollar by prohibiting any transactions with Iran until the president certifies that it’s no longer supporting terrorism, pursuing weapons of mass destruction and engaging in illicit behavior.
H.R. 5631 holds Iran accountable for its state sponsorship of terrorism, its human rights abuses and its ballistic missile program by imposing new sanctions. It also establishes a watch list for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, and requires the president to place sanctions on Iranian officials and citizens who have been involved in terrorism and human rights violations.
